Sex Therapy
with Zahra Somani
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
I have studied sexual attitudes and behaviors among diverse populations - my research has given me a deep understanding of the fundamental role sex plays in our lives and the challenges that arise when things just aren’t working.
Wondering if something is wrong with your sex life?
Have you been told you want too much sex, not enough, or something in between?
Do you want to talk about sex with your partner but have no idea where to start?
Maybe sex was complicated by trauma, religion, body image, or things you learned growing up. Other clients say they love each other but feel disconnected in the bedroom. Or maybe you simply want to understand what good sex could look like for you.
Sex therapy is just as much about what happens in the bedroom as what happens before we ever enter that space. It’s about agreeing to what good sex means for you as an individual and in your relationship.
Ultimately, it’s about understanding what is important to you and to your partner. Sex therapy is self-discovery, intimacy, and a chance to create a deeper connection beyond the physical. It’s the opportunity to create a space that is tailored to your relationship instead of trying to fit the mold that society gives you.
There’s freedom, joy, and pleasure on the horizon.

How Sex Therapy With Me Works
I use neuroscience, research-based tools, and emotionally-focused work.
You might be afraid to talk about sex, but I am not.
Sex therapy with me is direct, compassionate, and honest. That matters because sex is one of the most private parts of ourselves, and it can be incredibly hard to say out loud what we want, fear, enjoy, or avoid. In this journey, you’re not alone.
We’ll start by understanding your sexual story and what brought you here. Then we’ll build a roadmap for changing the way you understand, talk about, and experience sex and intimacy.
Your Sex Therapy Roadmap
-
We start by redefining and examining what “normal” looks like in a sex life and rethink the messages you may have learned from family, religion, pop culture, Instagram, or the magazines you read in the check-out line.
-
We’ll explore how you learned about sex and the story of sex in your relationship. This helps us understand what is happening underneath the problem.
-
For couples, we’ll explore what good sex feels like to you and how you approach intimacy physically. The goal is to create more awareness, connection, joy, and excitement.
-
We’ll look at how your attachment patterns affect intimacy, closeness, desire, and connection.
-
We’ll identify thought patterns that create shame, anxiety, pressure, or unrealistic expectations around sex that then influence behaviors. This is the "gold standard" for ED treatment and usually what I use for individuals
Sex therapy is not about performing better.
It's about understanding yourself, understanding each other, and creating a sex life that feels more aligned.
More Connection, Intimacy, And Joy
Sex therapy changes more than what happens in the bedroom. As you understand each other better and become comfortable talking about sex, intimacy can start to feel easier, deeply connected, and joyful.
After Working With Me, Clients Report:
Sexual alignment
Easier conversations
Less shame
More intimacy
Greater body comfort
More joy and excitement
Connection beyond the bedroom
When the sex isn’t working, it takes up 50-75% of the dysfunction in the relationship.
When we fix it, it accounts for 15-20% of overall relationship satisfaction.
About Zahra Somani, MS, LMFT
I believe everyone deserves intimacy. It's part of who we are as humans. Sex therapy is my favorite part of my work because it gives us the opportunity to rewrite what we have learned about sex from pop culture, social media, religion, relationships, and our own histories.
My style is direct, compassionate, and honest. I use neuroscience, research-based tools, and emotionally focused work. I’m also EMDR trained and trauma informed, which can be especially important when past experiences continue to affect intimacy today.
Before becoming a therapist, I was a history teacher for 15 years. I have also traveled to more than 40 countries doing research and owned an at-home bakery for more than 10 years. Today, I also care for my mom at home.
Availability: I provide in-person therapy in Dallas, Texas, and virtual therapy via telehealth for clients across Texas.
