EMDR Therapy

With Zahra Somani, EMDR Trained

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

I use EMDR because the research on its effectiveness is some of the strongest in the field, and I’ve experienced it firsthand.

Feel stuck but can’t explain why?
Do you understand what happened but still feel like you can’t get past it?
Have you tried talking about it and still feel hijacked by the same emotions, habits, or reactions?

Some clients come to me for EMDR because they’re caught in a pattern they understand intellectually but still can’t seem to translate this into a change in behaviors or emotions.. For others, an old experience or habit keeps getting triggered. Maybe anxiety, emotional eating, compulsions, or another behavior keeps taking over.

Sometimes the problem is that your nervous system is still reacting as though the past is about to  happen again. .

Clients Come to Me When They’re

  • Carrying Trauma

  • Experiencing PTSD

  • Feeling Anxious

  • Emotionally Eating

  • Struggling With Compulsions

  • Trying To Change A Habit

  • Tired Of Talk Therapy

Did you know?

EMDR can also be used as another regulation tool that’s great for things such as reducing anxiety before public speaking, minimizing panic attacks, managing social situations, interview prep and more.

How EMDR Therapy With Me Works

EMDR helps reduce the emotional tax around a memory so that we can see it neutrally and minimize our body’s reaction in the present. Instead of an old experience hijacking your present experience, we revisit the memory and your brain’s subconscious understanding of it so that it no longer triggers the same response.

From there, we’ll use EMDR alongside other approaches tailored to your specific needs. The work is structured, intentional, and focused on helping you move forward rather than dwelling in the emotions of the past.

Modalities I Use

Regain control of your past

EMDR is not only about trauma. It’s also useful when you feel stuck in patterns that you understand but can't seem to change.

After EMDR Therapy With Me, Clients Report:

  • Less emotional pain

  • Less flight, fright, or freeze

  • Better moods

  • More ease

  • Lighter emotional load

  • Easier daily tasks

  • Breaking old habits

Places that once felt heavy feel lighter. Experiences that used to take over become something you can think about without being pulled back into the same reaction.

About Zahra Somani, MS, LMFT

I use EMDR because I believe therapy should help people move beyond insight when insight alone is not enough. I weave neuroscience, research-based tools, and emotionally focused work into my approach, adapting the work to what is actually getting in your way.

I’m direct, compassionate, and honest. I’m also EMDR trained and trauma informed, and I have experienced EMDR in my own therapy. That personal experience gives me another level of understanding of what it can feel like to go through the process as a client.

Before becoming a therapist, I was a history teacher for 15 years. I have traveled to more than 40 countries doing research and previously owned an at-home bakery for more than 10 years. Today, I also care for my mom at home.

Availability: I provide in-person therapy in Dallas, Texas, and virtual therapy via telehealth for clients across Texas.
